Wire Gabions

Logistics Carrier Logistics Platform Defencell Usage Feasability Wire Gabion Usage
Aerial Delivery
Cargo Footprint 463L Pallets  5 463L pallets can create 2 FOBs with walls greater than 8 feet tall and 250 feet on a side.  Possible but requires more aircraft
One 463L pallet creates a wall 90 feet long and 7 foot 3 inches tall -- the combined 5 pallets make a wall less than 1/4 the length of Defencell.
Chinook Airlift  Units for one FOB can be placed in a single 20 foot container. The units and container meet sling load requirements. Not Possible  Gabion material needed to match Defencell would exceed the Chinook's lift capacity.
Blackhawk Airlift  12 pallets of DC4 can be sling loaded below a Blackhawk. This makes an 8 foot wall that is 944 feet long. Possible  Wire gabions required to make a wall of the same length and height would weigh more than 21,000 lbs, requiring three Blackhawk sling loads.
Airdrop Airdrop  Can be airdropped from a C-130 or similar sized aircraft  Not Recommended  Wire structure can be damaged during drop, rendering the product useless.
Land-Based Delivery
Vehicle Small Truck Loads  A single pallet of DC2 weighs less than 800 lbs and can easily be transported in small trucks with sufficient units to build a 5 foot high wall more than 200 feet long.  Possible but more costly than Defencell Wire gabions closest in width and length to Defencell would only reach 60% of the protective height and weigh almost 2000 lbs.
On Foot 1 Unit  A single Defencell unit weighs between 9.5 and 32 lbs (depending on the ballistic protection required), and can easily be packed by an individual.  Possible but much heavier The smallest wire gabion weighs 22 lbs. It would require four units (88 lbs) to equal the ballistic protection offered by Defencell's 9.5 lbs unit.
