Container Delivery Systems (CDS)
Military logistics are constantly pushing the limits of acceptable air drop altitudes. For C-130 pilots, air dropping cargo from altitudes below 100 feet and pinpointing drops to within 10 to 15 meters is becoming standard operating procedure. Metallic cargo can easily be damaged at those altitudes as it does not have time to safely decelerate. This limits the airdropping potential of wire-based force protection systems.
Defencell™ Force Protection Systems consist entirely of fabric material that can be dropped safely from almost any altitude. The all-textile construction makes Defencell Container Delivery Systems (CDS) highly compactable for easy palletization. Up to five 463L pallets of Defencell can fit within a C-130 -- enough to create two 100 man forward operating bases with walls over 8 feet high and 250 feet long (total perimeter 2000+ feet).
Defencell units are suitable for both Low Velocity Air Drop (LVAD) and High Velocity Air Drop (HVAD) operations. Loadmasters can contact Defencell for more information on CDS weights and dimensions.
For comparison purposes, an equivalent-sized pallet of wire mesh gabions would produce a 90 foot wall, requiring five pallets and at least four C-130s to deliver the equivalent protection of Defencell barriers.
