A common enemy tactic is to employ mortar attacks when soldiers are at their most vulnerable: during lights out. Most casualties of barracks bombings occur due to secondary fragmentation caused by masonry and glass.

While it is difficult to anticipate and defend against these types of attacks, barracks hardening can minimize the threat of fragmentation.

Defencell™ Force Protection Systems can quickly be placed between barracks to provide ballistics protection, absorb shrapnel and minimize blast shock waves. The small logistical footprint and quick setup time of a Defencell unit make it ideal for newly constructed forward operating bases and temporary living quarters.

Barracks Types

Available in four configurations to accomodate different barracks types, Defencell systems offer unique construction characteristics for expeditionary forces. Defencell can be placed between soft barracks (DRASH type tents, GP mediums, etc.) to create free-standing defensive walls. For hard barracks, Defencell can be built directly against the barracks wall to provide ballistics protection, soundproofing, and insulation.

Soldiers can stack the DT1 between tents to create a 5 foot wall that is 24-28 inches wide. For higher walls, the DC2, DC3, or DC4 can be stacked four high when free-standing or five high when propped against a barracks wall.
