Mortar & Artillery Defense
Forward operating bases (FOBs) and fire support bases face constant threats from stray mortar and artillery rounds. These attacks often originate in residential areas, making them difficult to anticipate or defend against. Mission-critical artillery pieces, howitzers, anti-aircraft weapons, and ammunition are often the intended target of these attacks.
Defencellâ„¢ barriers have minimized the risk of incoming mortar rounds by developing the DT1 Force Protection System. Defencell mortar bunkers protect mortar encampments from ballistic threats up to 0.50 caliber and 14.5mm, as well as fragmentation weapons such as medium and heavy mortars.
Defencell units are highly modular and can be stacked to create sloped defilades (natural or artificial barriers) and fortifications that can effectively diminish the effectiveness of incoming fire. Because Defencell is 100% textile with no metal or plastic parts, there is minimal risk of secondary fragmentation.
Using only locally granular fill (sand, rocks, or gravel) and minimal personnel, multiple Defencell walls can be configured to create mortar and artillery bunkers that provide sufficient space for artillery, mortar crew, fire control, and communications equipment, as well as ammunition and personnel equipment.
